Cultural Sustainability in Fashion

The focal point of fashion is the artists behind the creations. Artists who master local crafts and techniques stand out today. Crafts are linked to culture, and if this knowledge is not shared across generations, it cannot be transferred to others and will disappear. The fashion world is also closely interested in these beauties. Throughout history, designers and manufacturers have produced clothing and accessories based on regional culture. Clothing trends are adopted only if they suit the local culture. Ancient Egyptian culture inspired fashion. They wore elegant clothes that were comfortable in the heat. That's why white was chosen. Rich people wore expensive clothes and jewelry. The environment greatly influences the fashion of a region. Australian fashion features ostrich feather headgear. Australian light horsemen wore this. Flora and fauna inspire Australian haberdashery. This country's culture associates its natural beauty with everything, including fashion.

The concept of cultural sustainability expresses the idea of preserving and maintaining the traditional in the face of globalization and modernization. It's about ensuring that future generations can enjoy the same cultural experiences and traditions that we enjoy today. It can be done in traditional ways, such as keeping language and traditions alive, or in more modern ways, such as using technology to document a culture and share it with others. Fashion is one of these tools.

Whatever the approach, thanks to cultural sustainability we can keep our traditions alive, keep societies strong and one step closer to sustainable development!
