Fabric Allergy

Fabric allergy is a very common problem, especially in people with sensitive skin. Because our clothes are in constant contact with our skin, the type and content of fabrics we use can have a huge impact on our skin health.

The main factors that cause fabric allergy are:

Chemicals and Dyes: Some chemicals and dyes used in the textile industry can cause allergic reactions on the skin. Formaldehyde, azo dyes, and nickel-containing dyes are among common allergens.

Synthetic Fabrics: Synthetic fabrics such as polyester, nylon and spandex can cause skin irritation. Such fabrics often increase sweating and prevent the skin from breathing.

Wool and Other Natural Fibers: Although natural, some fibers, such as wool, can cause itching and redness on the skin. This is because wool fibers cause irritation when in contact with the skin.

Dust and Mite: Fabrics can contain allergens such as dust and mite. This can cause allergic reactions when it comes into contact with fabrics.

Fabric allergy symptoms may vary from person to person, but the most common symptoms include:
Itching, Redness, Skin blistering or rash, Hives, Swelling.

Ways to Cope with Fabric Allergy;

Choose Natural Fabrics: Natural and breathable fabrics such as cotton, bamboo and linen reduce the risk of skin irritation and allergic reactions.

Use Hypoallergenic Products: Hypoallergenic fabrics and clothing are specifically designed for sensitive skin.
Wash New Clothes: Be sure to wash your new clothes before wearing them. This prevents any chemicals and dyes left in the fabric from coming into contact with your skin.

Take an Allergy Test: You can have an allergy test to determine which substances you are allergic to.

Softener and Detergent Selection: Use hypoallergenic and perfume-free detergents and softeners.

Use Moisturizer: Keeping your skin moist can reduce irritation and itching.

With the right fabric choices, hypoallergenic products and appropriate skin care routines, you can minimize allergic reactions and live a more comfortable life.
